The 1-0 Club!

Typically, the Grand Prix Champion is the only fighter to finish night of the great tournament undefeated, 3-0. The finalist will earn a 2-1 record, and two semi finalists will have to accept a 1-1 record. The 4 quarter finalists who were eliminated in the opening fights walk away with 0-1 records. From 1993 to 1999, this was undisputed fact. Since 2000, however, there have been two undefeated fighters more often than not: the champion and a quarter final winner who had to withdraw due to injuries.

Here is a list of the who neither lost a fight at the Grand Prix nor had the crown placed on their heads.

2000, Peter Aerts- Aerts defeated Cyril Abidi, but huge gashes from headbutts prevented him from advancing to the semifinal. Abidi took his place against Sefo in the semifinal. There was no reserve fight.
2001, Ernesto Hoost- Hoost defeated Stefan Leko but damaged his foot. Leko took his place against Hunt. The reserve fight winner, Mike Bernardo, was next in line if Leko had been unable to advance.
2002, Bob Sapp- Sapp defeated Ernesto Hoost but injured his hand. Martin Holm was next in line but had injured his leg against McDonald. Hoost, therefore, took Holm's place against Sefo in the semifinal.
2005, Peter Aerts- Aerts defeated Jerome LeBanner but sustained damage to the body. The reserve fight winner, Glaube Feitosa, advanced to meet Mori in the semifinal.
2006, Remy Bonjasky- Bonjasky defeated Stefan Leko but sustained damage due to repeated low blows. Leko was next in line (new rule) but withdrew due to exhaustion from illness and was replaced by Peter Aerts who advanced to meet Feitosa in the semifinal.
