Outlook 2007 Alexander Ustinov

The winningest heavyweight kickboxer is not in the K-1. From time to time, I receive email from readers interested in discussing ranking systems. Some show support for an alternative objective rankings strategy, a points system. Seeing how Ustinov wins more fights per year than anyone else, he would take the #1 rank. Even weighted points systems based on quality of opposition would give him a top rank since many K-1 elite fighters are merely beating cannon fodder.

Right now, Ustinov has no reason to go to the K-1. Signing an exclusive contract would decrease his fight count and even his overall income unless, of course, the K-1 are willing to pay more than other promoters. At this stage, it seems unlikely since no one in Japan knows who he is. His K-1 fights against Nortje and Ignashov were not even broadcast on Fuji-TV.

No matter, there are a lot of good heavyweights outside the K-1. I see Ustinov collecting another 10 or so wins without K-1 fans knowing his name.
